Evaluation of Exotic Diseases Found in the U.S.

With the increase in world travel, globalization of trade and large numbers of immigrants settling in the US, many diseases once considered exotic in the US are now seen with increasing frequency. West Nile Virus represents an exotic disease that has been imported into the US and has established itself with alarming success. Other entities such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, babesiosis, and ehrichosis as well as other vector-borne diseases are not exotic but represent diseases found at the interfaces between people and animals. These often require a high index of suspicion and specialized laboratory tests to diagnose.

We specialize in these kinds of entities and will assist in diagnosis, follow-up, and reporting to the appropriate agencies and surveillance sites.
